Does your child need glasses? The best tips to choose the most suitable

Body:

It is very important to check children’s vision frequently to detect possible problems that may be affecting the child’s life and even their school performance. Sometimes headaches can be of visual origin and we must visit the ophthalmologist to assess it as they will suggest buying glasses including cat eye glasses for your little one.

When you are told that your child needs unique shape glasses like cateye glasses and you stand in front of hundreds of models for the first time, there are some things you should know before buying them just for the look, so here are various tips for choosing the most suitable cat eye glasses frames for each child.

That they like:

The first thing is to involve the child in choosing his glasses, if he is of the right age, of course. It is he who is going to wear them every day and he must feel comfortable with them. He must owe them as something beautiful and that he wants to wear them, and not as an enemy. That’s why liking them is important.

What material to choose?

Children’s eye glasses must be resistant and light. For the little ones, silicone frames are the best option, since they are more flexible and prevent breakage.

In children over five years of age, the most recommended are acetate frames, since they hide the thickness of the lens better and are usually more difficult to break than metal or injected plastic frames.

For children with nickel allergies, frames made from pure titanium are a good choice.

Round, square, big, small…?

Today there are hundreds of models of children’s frames including cat eye frames . Colored, metal, large, small, round, square…

The size of the glasses will depend on the size of the eye sockets and the distance between the child’s eyes.

It is a mistake to think that you have to buy the biggest glasses for when the child grows up. The center part of the glasses should fit over the center part of your pupils and should be large enough for you to see comfortably in all directions. But beware, they should not exceed the line of the eyebrows or be wider than the child’s face.

That they are comfortable:

– The essential requirement. The eye glasses should be comfortable and as rigid as possible so that they do not cause discomfort to wear. Both the rods and the terminals, the part of the glasses that surrounds the ear, must be flexible and adjustable.

– It is also recommended that the rods have a spring hinge so that they do not break when putting on and taking off.

– The children run, jump, and play in the yard and the glasses have to be part of them so that they do not feel that they are wearing them. They mustn’t move when you turn your head or look down.

– They should fit snugly behind the ears, but without hurting them. Likewise, the glasses mustn’t sit on the cheeks or produce pressure marks or discomfort. For this, it is advisable to wear some “stoppers” on the sideburns, which hug the child’s ear and prevent the glasses from falling, instead of the typical tape that passes behind the head, which can be more uncomfortable.

– As for the bridge of the nose, children’s eye glasses should have the maximum possible contact surface including cat eye glasses. When they are smaller and do not yet have a well-defined nasal bridge, frames with a full bridge are preferable, so the weight of the glasses is better distributed.

– Some glasses have a split bridge, which as the child grows can leave marks on the nose, but some gel pads can be a good solution.

– Likewise, it is important that the glasses do not sit on the cheeks or produce pressure marks or discomfort.

Do you play sports?

If the child plays ball or contact sports, the glasses must be suitable and safe so that they can make rapid movements without risk. Still, there are sport-specific frames made entirely of plastic, with non-hinged temples. For the pool, there are also swimming goggles with prescription lenses.

In each case, it will be necessary to assess the use that will be given to them, the graduation that the child needs, and if it is worth investing in this type of glasses.

Don’t rush to buy:

Be patient, ask a professional for help and take the time to test models, look for prices and find the best cat eye glasses for your child.
